BAN THE DAM JAM - BEACON THEATRE - OCT 12, 1991 - ORCHESTRA TICKET
CREE TRIBE FIGHTS DAM IN QUEBEC
The ''flood'' that came to the land in the backwoods of northwest Quebec where people there have lived for 4,000 years.
'''The only other time I heard about a flood was from the missionaries who told me about Noah`s Ark. I thought we would be destroyed.''
The focus of activities were four benefit concerts called ''Ban the Dam Jam'' with Jackson Browne, Indigo Girls, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg and others. After playing to sold-out audiences Oct. 7, the concerts organized by a Minneapolis-based group, Concerts for the Environment, concluded Friday and Saturday at the 4,500-seat Beacon Theater on New York`s Upper West Side.
Organizers say the events were intended to educate rather than raise funds, which barely covered expenses.
